The rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the term for the way in which adults are initiated into full membership with the Roman Catholic Church. To become a Catholic Christian requires learning certain information, but more importantly it requires the process of formation into the Catholic Christian way of life, a task which involves the whole parish community.
Currently at Holy Family Parish the RCIA sessions are held on Sunday afternoons from 12:30-1:45 PM in the St. John Center. Class formation usually starts in late summer/early September. The length of time that a person remains in the process is subject to individual circumstances.
Some adults who come to RCIA have very little knowledge of Christian beliefs. Others have a background in Christianity but were never baptized. Still others were baptized and participated in one of many diverse Chrstian denominations. They now wish to be in "full communion" with the Catholic Church.
Occasionally there are those adults who were baptized Catholic as infants but never received the sacraments of Confirmation and first Eucharist. They too can participate in the RCIA to complete their initiations.
